One Flu Over the Harken’s Nest

Even Raiders get sick! We wanted to give you a quick progress update, which turns out to be a medical report. Artist Darryl Banks was recently knocked off his feet for more than a week thanks to a bout of Type-A Influenza, along with Tinnitus. Here’s our patient at the doctor’s office!

Thankfully, Darryl is now on the mend and back at the drawing board, producing pages like this as he closes in on the end of Harken’s Raiders graphic novel.

We’ll be back soon with another update, and a little surprise from artist Sean Izaakse. Hmm, what could that be? Until then!

Awesome Kickstarters From Our Awesome Friends
about 5 years ago – Thu, Mar 14, 2019 at 11:37:44 AM

Good evening, Raiders! Today, we wanted to stop by and let you know about two awesome campaigns that are happening right now from our friends Graham Nolan and Bart Sears!

First up is Return to Monster Island, the all-new sequel to Graham’s Monster Island story. Monster Island is a classic adventure tale of two Navy pilots arriving on a lost island populated by giant monsters and strange aliens. The sequel, Return to Monster Island, welcomes our heroes, Mac and Duke, back to the island for more thrills and a healthy supply of new monsters, new enemies, and unexpected allies.

Graham, of course, is famous for his work on Detective Comics and for the co-creation of Batman villain Bane. He’s put a lot of work into this sequel, and, after 20 years of waiting, we all get to reap the benefits! The campaign has some amazing rewards, including an all-new color version of the original, Monster Island, Graham Nolan commissions, original art, and more!  Click this link to learn more!

Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes: Brutes and Babes Volume 2 is in its final week on Kickstarter! This is the definitive guide for any aspiring, or even established artist. Bart’s How To Draw columns in Wizard Magazine taught an entire generation of artists to draw, and now those lessons have been revitalized for a 144-page collection including sections on anatomy, finishing styles, breaking into comics, and much more, along with new tutorials.

You don’t need to have picked up the first volume of Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes: Brutes and Babes to take advantage of this collection, but Volume 1 is also available on this latest campaign.  You can check out it DPH2 campaign by clicking here!

Thanks for joining us. We’ll circle back with more news from the front before you know it.

Calling All Process Junkies!
about 5 years ago – Fri, Mar 08, 2019 at 05:24:35 PM

We bring news from the front!

Harken’s Raiders is advancing every day, with artist Darryl Banks is in the trenches pushing ever forward. While you wait to get your rewards in hand, we thought you might like a look at Darryl’s process for a page.

Darryl’s work on Harken’s Raiders has been mostly digital, his first extended foray into working digitally. Here’s a good example of the digital process coming into play. Darryl’s first pass on the layout for page 23 didn’t feel quite right, so writer Ron Marz and Darryl put their heads together to discuss an alternate approach. Darryl then came up with the revised version, to give the page a more expansive establishing shot.

As you see, Darryl and the team aren’t sparing any detail, and we’re all working hard to bring you the best version of Harken’s Raiders that we can. This has been a true labor of love, and we’re excited every time we get to share a piece of it with you.

Keep it right here for more awesome updates! We’ll certainly be checking in as we get closer and closer to the finish line.

The Art of Darryl Banks
about 5 years ago – Mon, Feb 25, 2019 at 11:47:59 PM

Hello again, Raiders! The mission continues! Here’s the sitrep on progress so far.

Our Harken’s Raiders companion book, Black Book: The Art of Darryl Banks, is coming together quite nicely. Over the past few weeks, Darryl has been working with our production team, selecting more than 100 pieces of artwork and putting together his commentary for the collection. The result is a curated collection of Darryl’s best work, most of it never previously published. We thought you’d like a peek at some of the pieces that will be included.

Darryl is still hard at work on Harken’s Raiders as well, and the pages are looking pretty epic! We’ll continue to debrief you on his progress as he works to button up the second half of the book. Until next time ... as you were, soldier!

Hark! Harken’s!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Feb 11, 2019 at 08:23:04 PM

Greetings, Raiders! It’s been a while since we’ve chatted, so we thought we’d give you a status report on our mission.

Currently, master artist Darryl Banks is illustrating the second half of Harken’s Raiders, while our design and editorial team works to assemble Black Book: The Art of Darryl Banks. The team is making great progress, and we’re on pace to have Harken’s Raiders fully illustrated, colored, lettered, printed, and out the door, along with the Black Book, for an April release.

We’ll continue to update you as our adventure progresses, but in the meantime, how about a peek at a gorgeous page of Harken’s Raiders inks from Darryl? We’re pretty pumped about how it’s all coming along so far, and we’re excited to get the finished product into your hands.
